Weekly Reflection Wk/1 Term 4

This week has felt very short but in that short amount of time I have wanted to get things done quickly so I have completed a lot of work. I have got through my personal inquiry quickly and am hoping to get that done in the 5th week. I have almost completed 3rd grade khan and have done 20 mins each day some days doing more than 45 mins. This has been a very confusing week because pet day has been and we had to prepare for that so there has not been as much time to do work but our timetable for our personal inquiry has helped clarify what we are doing and helped us work around pet day. This has been a good week for learning and working yourself.

Weekly Reflection Wk 8

This week has been a pretty busy week. I have done well to keep up and have been very successful in doing my work to a high standard. I can cope with not having a structured day and not being told we have to do a certain subject at a certain time. I will be fine with doing my own work at any time and will focus on things that are close to becoming . I have completed my Kiwi kids news featured article, have started my personal inquiry and have finish all my fairy tale writing and scratch. I have made progress on my water colour portfolio and am hoping to finish it by the end of next week.

Rapunzel Moment in time Sentence

Original sentence: No one dared enter this garden.

My Version: The sprouting piece of land was untouched by human matter, for the consequences that lay ahead for the daredevil that planted down their handcrafted boot on that garden were horrible.

Why I chose this sentence: I chose this sentence because it was one of the first sentences and if it was as it was before I changed it they would not read the piece of writing due to the lack of secrecy in the sentence and wouldn’t read the story to the end non stop because other activities would be more exciting.

What I changed: I changed the level of secrecy of the sentence so it hooks the reader and makes them want to keep reading because they know there will be more sentences that made them more excited about the story. I also changed the length of the sentence because a crucial sentence to keep people reading the story shouldn’t have six words because it shortens the story and there is less chance to make the reader enjoy reading the story.

Weekly reflection Wk/7

This week has been confusing and has been hard to keep up with everything. Even though it has been hard to keep up I have tried hard to keep up and have done surprisingly well. We have been learning about being connected and I have tried to be connected with everyone and trying to make the connection stronger between me and everyone else in the school. I completed my Hansel and Gretel story after being behind and also my Kiwi kids news featured article. I have done well in math because I have been practicing. This week has been a good week.

Weekly reflection Wk 6

This week has been very productive for me. I have completed my Kiwi kids news article for this week and have almost completed my Three little pigs writing which was overdue. When Dean says SDL I think that it is time that we have to finish things that we haven't already. Sometimes if this is called then I do things that are overdue that I need to do. When I have been behind and I need to finish something I go to Dean to see if there is a fast but still educational way to do it so that it doesn't take ages and I will become behind on other things. I think that as of now I will not use S.D.L time to do my personal Inquiry because I still have things I am behind on. I have enjoyed this week and found it very good from a learning point of view. I hope next week is as productive as this week.

“Manu goes up for the shot and sinks it! That puts the lead up to 15” exclaimed the radio announcer. Our whole household erupted with excitement as the argentine team toppled Italy by 15 and won gold at Athens. The radio announcer said he fell out of his chair with excitement and our whole family screamed with laughter. After the game Manu Ginobili was in his locker room being part drowned in the champagne showers. After the long plane ride home the argentina team were welcomed home with cheers and tears. I waited for the parade to come past me so I could ask Manu how he became so good. I asked Mum if she could lift me so I could talk to Manu for I was only 4. She lifted me up as Manu came past. I asked him how he became so good at basketball. He replied with “Hard work and dedication". 14 Years later I sat crying in my room after hearing Manu had retired from basketball. I just knew I had to have a great season in my NCAA Virginia team. My Mum called me down for breakfast “Francisco Caffaro stop crying in your room it is not the end of the world”

Weekly reflection week 5

This week has gone well because I have been on task most of the time. I have been behind on things then finished them very quickly and had them done before they became overdue. Trello has been a crucial role in helping me stay on task because I can plan my day and then keep track of what I have completed and what I need to complete. I have continued planning my personal inquiry and have ideas on what is gong to happen but have made progress in the writing or the movie other than research. I have been trying hard to level up on Khan because I have been on third grade for a while. I completed my Hansel and Gretel scratch and have started describing my witch and the forest for my story. I completed all the kiwi kids news questions and have started next weeks questions. I have made a map for our farm visit because it is one of my Dad's farm so I have helped Dean with organizing what we are going to do while we are there. It has been a good week work wise and I have had fun doing the Basketball practices because I love basketball and I love to think I am the best at school but Dean has the height advantage so combined with his skills he is the best which makes me the best student I think? It has been a great week.

1. I think lying is bad because lying makes the situation worse because the person you’re telling may think that the lie is true and they might let you away with something horrible like punching someone or breaking something expensive. I think honesty is important although you may get punished it would be a better punishment than if you lied and the person you’re telling found out that you were lying the punishment would be worse.
2. You may get away with what you did but in many cases you don’t. I would be lying to say I haven’t lied before which is why I won’t say it but many horrible time I have got away with doing something bad. If you didn’t like one of your siblings and you told your parents that they did it they would get in trouble and you might feel good depending on what type of person you are.
3. I think it is human nature because no one wants to get in trouble and we lie to get out of being in trouble and we get to do the normal things we do. Maybe we lie so that our schedule doesn’t change because we have already planned what we are going to do and we want to do what we have planned and if we don't get to do what we planned we will get annoyed.
4. I don’t think lying will ever stop because it is human nature although I think there will be easier ways to tell if someone is lying like lie detector and you put a pair of glasses on and it scan the person you are interrogating and if they are lying the glasses will buzz and they will be caught.
5. Haven’t really lied to kahi before an if I have I cannot remember lying to him. I have lied to people before but I think everyone I lied to has found out I was lying.
6. Breaking News: Prison are overflowing many new prison have to be built to accommodate all the prisoners. “Woah this is too serious” Said the prime minister. As her Two ic I had to comfort her in this situation but I wasn’t sure anything would work. We had to make a plan of action against rising prison population. We decide we would have to double up prison cells and hope that works. 4 MONTHS LATER Breaking news: 128 prisoners killed by roommates in the last 4 months could this be the end of our prime ministers reign at the top seat. Maybe continued…

I think that I have been on task and I don't have any overdue tasks from this week. With the changes that have happened ate our school I don't think I have changed very much. I got everything I needed to get done done. I feel I have been using my time wisely and been getting stuck into my work and trying hard to finish everything to a high standard. Sometimes during the week I have been off task but after that I would try to work faster or to a higher standard. I have been to the teacher a few times just to talk about things I haven't completed or things I am struggling with and he has been very helpful and has helped make me better at self managing my day which has helped me become a better self directed learner. Overall I think this week has been very productive.

I fell over in joy to see the pig was finally dead. My dad said to me it was the most irritating thing he had ever had to put up with. He had lost 143 cows because of the pig and had had 23 hectares of crop destroyed. It looked like he would run out of money because of a pig. (A few hours earlier) The pig was rushing through the trees getting drenched by the dew it was galloping along to find food. Then bang, the pig had been shot right through the shoulder but had not died. Dad slowly walked over to the pig held his gun to its head and pulled the trigger. The pig fell limp and was gutted and dragged to the shed for skinning and slicing.

“It is finally complete” Sven the crazy scientist exclaimed with joy “My life goals complete now I can go to any place in the world and be back in time to eat my two minute noodles”. Sven had just created a teleporter that you could take in your pocket. He hid this so no one else could travel the way he could. As Sven was walking down the road he came across a man that was imagining himself going to all the amazing places in the world. Sven grabbed his copy machine out of his bag and copied the teleporter so he could give one to the man. Casually he walked towards the man and introduced himself. After his introduction he gave the man the teleporter. Sven was sitting in his home when he flicked on the news. “Man goes to Paris, New York and London in 5 minutes!” News man Sam yelled from the otherside of the T.V. “The cat is out of the bag now!” Sven whispered. In a short time people were banging on his door asking for a teleporter.

“Leave me alone I’m about to watch the lights in the sky” Pauline bellowed. The Lights were the most amazing thing Pauline had ever seen. She only got to see once a year. So she tried to draw them so she could see them all the time. The only problem with that is her brother Paul always annoys her to the point she doesn’t have time to draw the lights and If she did draw the lights she would find the piece of paper she drew them on torn to tiny shreds on the floor. She never knew what the lights were she just knew that they were amazing and the most fascinating things in the night sky.

The stink was so horrible that it made my eyes water and my sweat glands spew out all the sweat the could. It was only lit by my torch that was on low battery. The crumbling walls made me feel like is was gonna die down here. The water was home to god knows what and hopefully I wouldn’t learn what lurked in the murky drain water. The mice and cockroaches scrambled around my feet as I tried to find a minimally sanitized area where I could live.

Paperback writer paragraph

As he took the long walk towards his cell he saw the other inmates sitting in their corners some even crying. Seeing these crying souls made him regret hitting his daughter and now he was going to be exiled for 4 years. He caught glimpse of a prison guard beating a inmate and he made it to his cold, dark and moist cell that he would be in for the next 4 years.

Wally Bradley

A young 24 year old man who found his love of writing during his 4 year sentence in jail for hitting his daughter so hard that she broke her shoulder and was sent to hospital. He wanted to write about how tragic his life had been and after jail how he would get himself back on track. He published his book and earned millions because his book was so popular. He also became the most well known writer in the southern hemisphere.

The high school basketball prodigy. Wanting desperately to become the best basketball player in the world. Working harder than the rest, Wanting it more than the rest. Many compared him to Michael Jordan yet he was only playing in high school. He skipped college and declared himself in the 2003 NBA Draft. Many doubted if because he was so young he would get into the NBA. But they were all proved wrong when he was drafted 1st overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played 7 seasons with them until becoming one of the most hated players in the NBA. He went to the Miami Heat to win a championship and ended up with 2 championships being named finals MVP in both.

He is the hardest working sport person in the world.

Quick write Narrative

We walked through the wheat field to the tree on the cliff. I challenged my cousin to a race towards the tree. We ran as fat as we could towards the tree. It had rained the night before so it was muddy and slippery. I made it to the tree and slid closer and closer to the cliff. I flew off the side of the cliff. I threw my hand out and grabbed a ledge that hung out from the cliff. I yelled “Help!!” and my cousin responded “I’ll run back to the house and get our parents” So I was left hanging on to my life. It felt as though I had leonine grip on the rock as I was determined not to fall to my death. I heard footsteps coming closer and closer to the edge. I screamed at the top of my voice “Stop you’ll slip and fly off the edge”. Everyone stopped and slowly walked towards the edge of the cliff. My Father and Uncle grabbed me and pulled my upwards. I ran to my mother and squeezed her into a hug. I said to my cousin “I owe you my life”. He pulled me into a hug and we began our play in the tree.

My awesome holiday recount

In my holiday I got to chill out and have some rest. I spent most of the first week playing Xbox with my brother and watching youtube. We made a blanket fort and shot Dad with nerf guns. In the last weekend we had friends over because their sister had a basketball tournament so we had lots of fun playing basketball and Xbox. Their sister got into the final but lost 41-46. Her team was happy though because they got into the final. That was my holiday It was really fun.

In class this term we have been doing Quick writes for every word of the day. This days word was mump.

I set adrift to get away from my parents because they wanted me to act more like them. I set off to my room in our woodland cabin by the massive lake where when you are in the middle you can’t see the sides and it looks like the middle of the pacific ocean. I borrowed my Dad’s raft and set adrift out to the middle where i could finally be alone and do what I wanted to. A few seconds later the oars I was using slipped from my grasp and floated away from me. I sat up in the boat trying to find a way back but I couldn’t see the shore anywhere.

“Why did I have to be such a mump” I said to the calm blue water

My boat violently rocked and I saw the giant fin of something that looked like it came from a nightmare. My boat flipped and I sunk to the bottom like a stone. A few minutes of pure agony I saw the light.

The Benefits of Prebiotics

Prebiotics are the fibers your digestive system and salivary enzymes ( a substance produced by a living organism which acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction) can’t  break down. They also enhance the growth of probiotics which are the good bacteria in your gut. These are some of the benefits of Prebiotics

Prebiotic fiber is a non-digestible part of foods like bananas, onions, garlic, the skin of apples, chicory root, beans, and many others. Prebiotic fiber goes through the small intestine undigested and is fermented when it reaches the large colon. This fermentation process feeds helpful bacteria colonies including probiotic bacteria and helps to increase the number of helpful bacteria in our digestive systems that are associated with better health and reduced disease risk.

Researchers have found that prebiotics are helpful in increasing the helpful bacteria already in the gut that reduce disease risk and improve general well being. Prebiotic fiber is not as fragile as probiotic bacteria because it is not affected by heat, stomach acid, or time. Nor does the fermentation process differ depending on the individual.

They may sound like the same thing or they do the same thing but what they do and how they help is amazingly different. Probiotics are friendly, helpful bacteria, and the benefit of probiotics is that they help with your overall wellness, not just gastrointestinal health.

Prebiotics, on the other hand, are a special type of fiber. It’s a fiber your digestive system cannot break down. But unlike other types of fiber, prebiotics are food that is specific for the good bacteria in your gut. They enhance the growth of probiotics.

So, the difference between probiotics and prebiotics is that while they are both trying to accomplish the same general thing—keeping your gut flora healthy—they approach it in different ways. To help you understand, let me explain with an analogy.

Bananas, onions, garlic, the skin of apples, chicory roots and beans have prebiotic fiber. Which you can wow your peers by telling them that the skin of their apple doesn’t get digested in the small intestine. Prebiotics are vital in making probiotics or helpful bacteria in your gut and that probiotics and prebiotics are completely different but are trying to achieve the same thing. Making your gut happy and healthy.

My Weekend

In the weekend I played a game of league. We won 34 - 22 in a close game until the end. After that we went home and played basketball with Blake. I won 21 - 19. The next day we transformed into lumberjacks and cut up some firewood. In the end we filled three trailers with wood. We almost filled our newly created wood shed but not quite. The rest of the day I watched people playing air-soft which is a team game that you play with BB guns and you shot the other team. It was a nice weekend.

My holiday

The first week of my holiday was not very eventful until we got some friends over for the weekend. We went to the pancake rocks when the weather was stormy which made it an amazing experience. The next day we went to shantytown and said goodbye to our friends. We spent another couple of days at home until we went to Ashburton to see more friends and played a lot of basketball. Blake popped our basketball so we went to get a new one. As we were driving home we went to more friends houses and had a dunk contest on their basketball hoop. It was an amazing holiday

This term in class we have been reading the amazing book Refugee. Kahi and I did a response on the book. Hope you enjoy and leave a comment if we did something wrong or could do better.

My Weekend

On Saturday I played league. We played in a nines tournament. There were three games, each of them were 18 minutes long. We lost the first one and lost the second one. We weren't told the score of the last one but we played really well and worked together as a team. The next day Dad and Blake went to cut up a deer down at a friends house. Dad said I could bike down to help with Kahi. So I hoped on my bike for the around 1 km ride to Kahi's house which would then lead to an 8 km trek down the road to start helping. We didn't do much helping but we played around a lot and ran around the paddock next door. It was a fun but tiring weekend.

Easter weekend journal

In the 5 day weekend Blake and I played a lot of rugby and basketball. We explored the huge paddock next to our house. We brought along with us a BB gun for some target practice. Blake was walking around so I shot in his direction to see if he would duck but unluckily for him he didn't so I shot closer and he still didn't duck So I shot at him and I hit him in the back and he ran away to try and hide but I got him again. We went back home to play a game of rugby. We didn't track the score but there were a lot hard hits. The next day we got lots of Easter eggs and ate most of them the same day. The next day we went to the movies with Toby (Blake's friend) to see Peter rabbit. It was really funny and I give it a 4/5. We dropped Toby off and went back home and played basketball and I finally dunked on our basketball hoop which made Dad really surprised. It was a really fun and busy weekend.

Balloon science with Mr Cook

Hi guys in this experiment we will be learning about the forces of steam, air and water. We filled the bottom of a bottle with hot water then shook the bottle to make sure that it didn't crack. Then greased up a balloon with margarine and finally pushed the balloon inside the bottle but this isn't the science. The balloon isn't just going in the bottle it is being pushed in by the air that also wants to go in. Here is the link to the video of us pushing the balloon in. Beware of the pop at the end.

My Weekend

On Friday I played the another two games in the nines league tournament. We lost the first game and we weren't told the score of the second game. After that we had dinner and went home. On Saturday I was woken up at about five o'clock because Mum was leaving to go to Ed Sheeran. I fortunately got back to sleep. We went to Greymouth for Kaitlyn's ballet practice then had some lunch and went home to play a game of Basketball with Dad. I was dunked over more times than I can count and got less shots in than a guy with a broken arm. The next day we almost completed the woodshed. We put some corrugated iron on the roof  and started piling some wood in. It was a fun and busy weekend.

For my reading this week Thomas, Eden,Emily, Kahi, Cameron, and I did a freeze frame of our novel Refugee. I was Waleed, Kahi was the Dad, Thomas was the Mum, Emily was the cameraman, Cameron was Mahmoud, and Eden was the taxi driver. We did the scene where Mahmoud's family is in the taxi and the  taxi driver is pointing a gun at them.

My Weekend

My weekend was made up of building and sport. On Friday I played in a nines league tournament. We played to games and won one and drew one. The next morning I got up and started to play basketball by myself until Blake came out and challenged me to game. It was very close and I won 10-8. Then we went into town for Kaitlyn's Ballet performance practice. We drove back home and I was about to turn on the T.V when I was told that one of my friends was in Christchurch hospital with burns up his arms and legs. On Sunday we carried on building a woodshed. We got to putting the iron over the outside of it when we stopped. It was a busy weekend.

My weekend

In the weekend we woke up at 6:30 to go to Christchurch and watch the Black caps vs England. The line into the oval was humongous and we waited for over 15 minutes. We played some cricket and watched the Black caps get smashed. It was good fun and we saw some friends. We walked right around the oval until we got told we couldn't go past. We saw the hurricanes beat the crusaders. It was really fun.   

Refugee wk5 raft investigation

This term we are reading the book Refugee. In the book one of the characters "Isabel" and her family are heading from Cuba to Miami using a homemade raft. So we created a raft out of plastic bottles, egg cartons, cans, skewers and paper. I think we did pretty well with the planning and creation of the boat and the final product meet our expectations of it floating and sailing at speed.

The Game Of Truth Or Dare Pick a path story

This is my pick a path story about a deadly game of truth or dare. It involves a haunted house, a house fire, a disgusting pond, a demon and his dog. Pick the right path or it will be the end of you. I really like writing and reading stories like this because you can go a little freestyle and there are no boundaries.

My Weekend

My weekend was nice and quite. Blake and I were having flat out basketball games which was like a two day competition to see who was the best. We played about 45 games in one day. Then we played some swing ball before running to the end of a paddock and back. Blake and I had a bike race around the house which I won because I was changing gears which made it easier to ride. It was a fun weekend.

It was the middle of the night. A gunshot whizzed past my ear.
I ducked and returned fire, I yelled “enemies 12 o’clock”.
Everyone sprang up and started firing at the enemy trench.
I pulled out my radio and called in the airstrike.
The spitfire flew low and bombed the enemies.
All the shots stopped and everyone started cheering.
Then out of the smoke about 500 soldier’s charged at us with their
bayonets. We stopped cheering and started shooting. They were
climbing into our trench and slashing our men.
I started shooting then ran away down the hill behind me.
I felt a sharp pain and looked down only to see a blood stained chest.
I woke up.

My Weekend

For the weekend I went to Ashburton for my friends Mums birthday. We checked out his new basketball and played for a while until we got called to go swimming in their Nana's pool. We did some races where one person ran from the pool three times around the backyard then come back to the pool, tag the other person then they swim a length to the finish. For dinner we had pizza, chicken and chips. Afterwards the delicious chocolate cake came out. We didn't get to bed until 11:30 because we were using the haunted Elmo doll that moves in the night. I woke up at 7:00 had breakfast then left. It was a fun filled weekend.       

Autobiography poem

In class did an autobiography about us and the things we love, where we want to go, where we live and so much more. Our teacher Miss J thought it was a good idea to get to know each other so we can work together better and most importantly brighten up our empty walls! 

My Weekend

My weekend was full of building and playing some sports with Blake.We went to the Preseason Hurricanes vs Crusaders with Ridge. It was a good game to watch and the final score was 44-22 to the Hurricanes. The first sport was american football. We played with Kaitlyn and she beat us. Then we started building a wood shed. We started by digging post holes in the ground. We got that finished and put the supports in and then the frame. Afterwards we sat down and watched the Superbowl. It was close until the end when the eagles pulled away. My favourite part was the end when Tom Brady threw a huge pass to the in-zone and the receiver dropped it at the last second.The Eagles won 41-33. It was really fun.
